The Hunch that Changed my Life
Back in 2006, I found myself questioning what I wanted to do, where, and with whom. At a crossroads, I chose to bet on myself and seek what the world had to offer. It was time to step into the unknown to discover my calling, find my tribe, and embrace a new life.
In the previous years, I had taken vacations to Egypt, China/Tibet, and Thailand. Upon returning, I'd often daydream in my cubicle and think back to the amazing strangers that I'd connected with on my travels. Each of them helped me grow through their kindness and insight.
One thing kept gnawing away at me though - why wasn't this approach to growth being applied in the business world? Deep down, I believed in the concept of growth through human connection, but I needed to see more examples first-hand. To learn this, I set out on a four-year adventure that forever changed the way I would view life. The journey led me to people, places, and events that would test my mettle, help me find happiness, and shed light on my life's true calling.
The photos below share snippets of this journey. I will forever be grateful and indebted to the many individuals, cultures, and organizations that inspired and educated me.

Cue the cringe! These trips - taken while still in the corporate world - are what sparked the notion of growth through human connection. It was my first time setting out alone, facing fears, and building memorable relationships with new friends, taxi drivers, local students, street vendors and even ex-carnies. These baby steps helped to shatter reality as I knew it!

Kickoff at the World Cup in South Africa and then on to Oktoberfest and music festivals in central Europe. Each of these experiences brought folks together to let loose, celebrate, and share their traditions with others.

After four months of non-stop adventure there, a two-week hike in Nepal offered up the perfect place for reflection. Indonesia and Japan rounded out the Asia leg of my trip with a mix of remote nature and a unique twist on an American pastime.
